Nature clubbers were really excited to see one of the raised beds full of herbs-thank you Jamie, Benjamin and Mr Norman.  We chose the sage today to cook with.  Each child took 2 leaves each from the outside and bottom of the plant, which we took in to wash. Then, at dinner time, we chopped up some onion and garlic and fried it in some olive oil.  Each child tore their sage leaves and added them into the pan.  After about 5 minutes, we added a tin of chopped tomatoes and some pepper.  Meanwhile, some pasta was boiling away and we added a few spoonfuls of the water to the sauce. Finally, we drained the pasta and mixed it with the sauce.  All the children had three helpings and this was after their lunch, including Anya who said that she wasn’t a fan of pasta!  I asked the children to think of other things they might like to cook with the herbs: Parsley, Rosemary Thyme and Lavender.  We listened to Scarborough Fair on youtube whilst we ate and we also read a Wikipedia page all about sage. Apparently, it was considered holy because in the bible there is a story of people hiding from Herod in a sage bush!
