Nature club got off to a windy start this year, which is appropriate considering we are now in autumn. Firstly, I asked the children to use their senses to tell me if over the summer, it had been mainly windy or still, warm or cold, wet or dry. They had to give me the evidence for their answer. When they came back to share their observations, everyone had something to say. We looked at the low water in our pond, the branches all over the ground and the dried seed heads on a lot of the plants and herbs. After watering, they began to gather some seeds from the fennel, echinops, and wild carrot which we will use next week. We then began picking up all the branches, stripping the leaves off into the compost bin and keeping the sticks to build a bug house or an animal shelter at a later date. We finished by discussing how the seeds get spread-wind and birds-and humans.
